Shuhei Yoshida, who will leave Sony Interactive Entertainment on January 15 after more than three decades, has revealed how he plans to stay in the game industry for the foreseeable future.
We reported earlier this week that Yoshida would be leaving his post of decades at the start of the new year. There were reactions from many in the gaming industry. Among them was Xbox boss Phil Spencer. But Yoshida has been quiet about what he will do when he leaves Sony, but he has hinted at it on Twitter.
My next move will be doing something like voice acting in a game. https://t.co/X8Dhqc3GAA

“My next move will be to do something like voice acting in a game,” Yoshida wrote. In terms of voice acting, there are already some big names that we can instantly recognize. The likes of Nolan North (who voiced Nathan Drake in Uncharted) and Troy Baker (who voiced Joel Miller in The Last of Us) are among those who reacted to Yoshida’s statement with excitement and would welcome the Japanese veteran to appear in this format.
But Yoshida has already appeared in a game! He was first seen in 2014, ten years ago, in Super Time Force Ultra, where he was a playable character on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. The side-scrolling shooter game hinted at Yoshida’s use of Twitter, as you could shoot tweets and likes at your opponents. But again, that was in 2014. It’s unclear what his role will be after that, but he may be associated with Sony as a voice actor.
Yoshida used to be the head of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios, the predecessor to PlayStation Studios, but that position was taken over by Guerrilla Games head Herman Hulst in 2019, and Yoshida has moved to head up the indie division. We’re curious to see who will be appointed as his successor… if it’s not a Japanese person, then the Americanization of PlayStation will surely continue because let’s not forget that Sony Interactive Entertainment is not based in Japan, but in the US (California).
When will we hear Yoshida in a game?
