MOVIE NEWS – Margot Robbie recently shared why appearing completely naked in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street was essential for her role. While many actors hesitate to expose themselves on screen, Robbie felt that her 2013 breakout role as Naomi Lapaglia required a no-holds-barred approach. Starring alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, her performance caught Hollywood’s attention, leading to numerous opportunities.
In an interview on the Talking Pictures podcast, Robbie explained how certain key scenes would have lost their impact if she held back. She pushed for nudity in specific moments, believing it was critical to portray Naomi as someone who confidently manipulated others with her body.
“Martin Scorsese said, ‘Maybe you can be wearing a robe if you’re not comfortable.’ But I said, ‘That’s not what she would do in that scene. The whole point is that she’s going to come out completely naked—that’s the card she’s playing.’”
In one of the film’s most iconic scenes, Naomi seduces Jordan (DiCaprio) while fully exposed. Robbie acknowledged the discomfort of such scenes but credited Scorsese and the crew for their professionalism. In a 2017 interview, she admitted to calming her nerves with tequila but emphasized her preparation and commitment. “Once I committed to the role, I wanted to go all-in. I didn’t want to do anything halfway.”
Margot Robbie’s Audition Could Have Ended Disastrously
Robbie’s fearless approach earned her respect and iconic roles like Harley Quinn in the DCEU and the title role in 2023’s Barbie. However, during her audition for The Wolf of Wall Street, she made some bold decisions that could have gone terribly wrong. She recounted throwing water in DiCaprio’s face during a heated scene, unsure if it was the right choice.
“My managers made me redo my audition tape five times because it wasn’t good enough. At the audition, instead of kissing DiCaprio, I slapped him. The room went silent, and I thought I’d blown it. But then Leo and Marty burst out laughing and said, ‘That was great.’”
The Wolf of Wall Street became a critical and commercial triumph, earning over $400 million globally and five Oscar nominations. For Robbie, the film marked the beginning of her rise to Hollywood stardom. Despite taking time off for her family, Robbie remains one of the most sought-after actresses in the industry.
