Jurassic World: Rebirth Charging Toward $260 Million Opening Weekend

MOVIE NEWS – By Sunday, Jurassic World: Rebirth could rake in as much as $260 million in North America and overseas, according to Deadline’s estimates. This summer’s blockbuster was surrounded by huge anticipation, so it’s no accident the premiere was timed for the July 4th holiday—a weekend when Americans traditionally hit the movies with their families.

Director Gareth Edwards pointed out that Jurassic World: Rebirth is a rare kind of Hollywood production. Not only does it revive the beloved dino franchise, but it’s also one of those few films where the studio actually asked to add scenes into the theatrical cut—instead of removing them.

The shoot wrapped in October 2024, and the film was edited by Christmas and presented to the studio. “The original goal was to keep the film under two hours,” Edwards told Gizmodo. “What we delivered was exactly 1 hour and 59 minutes. The studio said that was great but asked if we could put five minutes back in from the deleted material. So we did, and that’s how the final cut was made.”

There are still three deleted scenes that will only appear later in the director’s cut. Edwards didn’t mind losing two of them, but the third was harder to let go.
“I don’t want to spoil anything, so I’ll just hint at it. I really loved this scene, and cutting it felt like performing surgery on myself. It happens at a gas station, and there’s this tension—you know something’s coming. But it’s in the third act, which is just nonstop action. You can’t afford to slow down even for a moment, so we left it out. The film really works better that way. But still, that scene is close to my heart because it allowed a moment to breathe.”
