28 Years Later: The Bone Temple – First Trailer Revealed [VIDEO]

MOVIE NEWS – The highly anticipated sequel, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, has dropped its first trailer. Danny Boyle and Alex Garland’s haunting post-apocalyptic world is back, and this time the dangers go beyond the infected — humanity itself might be the darkest threat.

Directed by Nia DaCosta (Candyman, The Marvels), 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple brings back three major characters: Ralph Fiennes as Dr. Ian Kelson, Alfie Williams reprising his role as Spike, and Jack O’Connell stepping into the chilling role of cult leader Sir Jimmy Crystal. Together, they push the story into even more terrifying territory.

The official synopsis reads: “Expanding upon the world created by Danny Boyle and Alex Garland but turning it upside down, Nia DaCosta directs 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. Dr. Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) finds himself in a shocking new relationship that could change everything, while Spike’s (Alfie Williams) encounter with Jimmy Crystal (Jack O’Connell) becomes a nightmare without escape. In the Bone Temple, the infected are no longer the greatest threat — the inhumanity of the survivors is far worse.”

The trailer shows Dr. Kelson continuing his bizarre bond with the giant infected known as Samson, who now plays an even larger role. Meanwhile, Spike becomes the target of Jimmy Crystal’s sadistic cult. Early reactions are already calling Jack O’Connell’s performance “the villain of the year.”

Speaking to Rolling Stone, O’Connell described the film as “the weird, deranged cousin to 28 Years Later.” He added: “It’s that unsettling relative you might be embarrassed by, because of their strange fascinations. But ultimately, nature is the unstoppable force. The world continues with or without humanity. And I don’t see the infected as purely antagonists. Our film will definitely make you think about that.”

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is scheduled for release on January 16, 2026, via Sony Pictures Releasing. A third film is already in development, with 28 Days Later star Cillian Murphy set to return in a pivotal role.
