It may be time to reinstall Red Dead Redemption 2, because a massive free fan mod will open up Mexico this September. Nuevo Paraíso: The Forgotten Frontier adds a new region, missions, and activities to Rockstar’s western.

For years, Red Dead Redemption 2 players have wanted to cross the border and explore Mexico with the same level of detail as the main map. Rockstar never delivered that expansion officially, but the modding community is going far beyond simply removing map boundaries by building a complete region with its own missions, NPCs, and carefully designed locations.

Led by modder Rixus724, the project will launch on Nexus Mods on September 16. The team wants Nuevo Paraíso to fit naturally into the world and chronology of Red Dead Redemption 2, so it takes place during the epilogue in 1907 with John Marston. Players will discover new settlements, landscapes, ranches, and territories controlled by the Mexican government across a frontier undergoing major change.

Nuevo Paraíso: The Forgotten Frontier will be much more than an empty section of map to roam. Side missions, train robberies, and enemy camp clear-outs are among the planned activities, allowing Mexico to function as a distinct, content-rich part of the game even though the creators are not promising a major narrative campaign.

Sadie Adler also appears in the latest trailer after the events of Red Dead Redemption 2, suggesting that some scenes and events may be scripted. It is not yet clear how important those moments will be or whether the mod will feature voice acting; if it does, the team could potentially use AI-generated voices.

The wait is nearly over: Nuevo Paraíso: The Forgotten Frontier will be released completely free on September 16. Players will need the Red Dead Redemption 2 base game and the appropriate modding tools, while the team plans to publish detailed installation instructions closer to launch.
