Enjoy the current Silksong while you can, because it’s about to change. Team Cherry admitted they may have pushed the difficulty too far. The Australian studio confirmed a balancing update will arrive for Hollow Knight next week.
Hollow Knight: Silksong has finally launched, but with it came immediate criticism about its punishing difficulty. After years of anticipation and endless replays of the original game, many fans were surprised to find that what started as a planned DLC now delivers challenges harsher than the base title. The debate grew louder until Team Cherry themselves confirmed that, yes, some sections are unbalanced, and fixes are on the way.
While fans argued across social media and forums over whether Silksong was truly harder, artificially difficult, or flawed in its design, many were waiting for an official response. Now it’s here: Team Cherry will roll out a patch “middle of next week,” between September 16 and 18, aimed at rebalancing the game’s early stages.
Changes Coming to Boss Fights and Rewards
The update will boost rosary rewards and reduce damage from several enemies, changes that, according to the developers, won’t “deteriorate the gameplay experience.” More significant tweaks will target the bosses Moorwing and Sister Splinter, whose battles have been particularly frustrating for players. Sister Splinter’s fight is especially crucial, as beating her unlocks the wall jump ability, making progress through the game dependent on victory.
For those unwilling to wait, the patch is already live in public beta for PC on Steam and GOG. Console players, however, will need to hold out for the official release. Still, Team Cherry believes determination and patience are enough to conquer the game’s toughest challenges without losing the essence of what makes Silksong rewarding.
With this first balancing update, Hollow Knight: Silksong proves the developers are listening closely to their community and committed to refining the experience. Some players will brag about taking down bosses before the changes, but the majority will appreciate a smoother entry into the adventure without losing the spirit of challenge.
