The game might be closer than expected, as it has surfaced somewhere that’s definitely not a coincidence.
Cold Iron Studios previously revealed that it was developing a new title building upon the success of Aliens: Fireteam Elite. Now, it appears that Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 is indeed in development — and could be released as a surprise before the end of the year. While the sequel to the 2021 cooperative shooter hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, the ESRB has apparently already rated it, as spotted by Gematsu.
The unannounced Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 has been rated by the ESRB. Seems to be published by Daybreak Game Company this time? (Focus Entertainment published the first game.)https://t.co/nee1Py4enl pic.twitter.com/AcnzyrR2fM

The now-removed listing assigned the game a Mature (M) rating for blood, violence, and strong language — which certainly fits the Aliens universe. The page also noted that Daybreak Games Company would be publishing this time, replacing Focus Entertainment from the first game, and listed PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC as platforms. Since ESRB ratings typically occur just before launch, this suggests a surprise reveal might be imminent.

It’s possible the listing was a mistake, but the details align perfectly with ongoing rumors and statements made by Cold Iron and Daybreak. In October 2023, Cold Iron confirmed it was “working full steam ahead” on a new title inspired by Fireteam Elite, though without clarifying whether it would be a direct sequel. A presentation leaked on Reddit last year (reportedly titled Project Macondo) described Fireteam Elite 2 as featuring a new story campaign, multiple branching level routes, and smarter, more dynamic alien AI behavior.
Daybreak announced in 2023 that it would be publishing Cold Iron’s next project, describing it as an “exciting new multiplayer action shooter” based on a major global IP license, set to launch in 2025 — which matches the ESRB timing perfectly. With all this evidence, it’s looking increasingly likely that the sequel is real and will expand on everything fans loved about the first Aliens: Fireteam Elite.
