Kate Hudson Could Break a Record Thanks to Her New Movie

MOVIE NEWS – Kate Hudson first received an Oscar nomination in 2001 for her performance in Almost Famous, and she now has a serious chance to take home a golden statue this February. According to Variety critic Clayton Davis, the actress delivers a revelatory performance in Song Sung Blue, deserving the highest recognition, while the film itself is so perfectly made it seems destined for award season glory.

Hudson could break a record: if she is nominated again, a full twenty-five years will separate her two Oscar nominations.

Song Sung Blue hits theaters as a perfect Christmas gift. The bittersweet biographical story follows a small-town American singing couple who perform as a Neil Diamond tribute duo, facing their own personal challenges while chasing both love and success. Alongside Hudson, Hugh Jackman co-stars as her musical partner, and Davis praises both for delivering mesmerizing performances in song and dialogue alike, captivating audiences from start to finish.

The critic speaks from experience, having attended the AFI Film Festival (the American Film Institute’s annual showcase of next season’s most promising films), where Song Sung Blue premiered. Watching Hudson’s performance, Davis was reminded of other Oscar-winning portrayals in similar roles, including Reese Witherspoon in Walk the Line, Hilary Swank in Million Dollar Baby, Frances McDormand in Fargo, and Renée Zellweger in Chicago (although Zellweger only received a nomination, as Catherine Zeta-Jones ultimately won for Chicago).

Davies also praised director Craig Brewer for his sharp eye for talent. Brewer previously directed the acclaimed entertainment biopic Dolemite Is My Name, which helped launch Da’Vine Joy Randolph toward her eventual Oscar win for The Holdovers. He also directed Hustle & Flow, the story of a street hustler turned hip-hop star, which earned Terrence Howard an Oscar nomination and won for Best Original Song.
