PlayStation’s latest stats tell the story: the Ghost of Yotei phenomenon isn’t just a Western success, it is crushing it in Atsu’s homeland as well. In October, Sucker Punch’s new release became Japan’s most downloaded PS5 game.
It has been a little over a month since the PS5 launch of Ghost of Yotei, and multiple updates have already charted strong commercial momentum. Atsu’s journey is selling briskly across Europe and the United States, echoing the 2020 trajectory of Ghost of Tsushima. But what about the country where the story unfolds? Turns out Japan has embraced it too – it was the most downloaded PS5 title in October.
Sony shared the figures on the Japanese PlayStation Blog, compiling last month’s PS Store download leaders across PS5, PS4, PS VR2, and free-to-play. The post breaks out results for Japan as well as the United States and Canada. In both regions, Ghost of Yotei placed near the top alongside the equally hot Battlefield 6.

The blog also spotlights PS4, PS VR2, and free-to-play favorites. In Japan’s last-gen market, Code Vein surged, while many players in the US and Canada spent October with the acclaimed Red Dead Redemption 2. VR-wise, Beat Saber remains the go-to in Japan, whereas North America is into the energetic platforming of Max Mustard. As for free-to-play, Japan’s PS Store crowned Delta Force, and the recent Battlefield REDSEC drew heavy attention stateside.
With Ghost of Yotei riding a wave of goodwill, one question pops up fast: will there be DLC? Sucker Punch has not confirmed plans, but says it will follow the approach used with Ghost of Tsushima: if fans want to learn more about Atsu and its surroundings, the team will “carefully consider” an expansion. In short, there is still a chance to revisit the studio’s striking take on Japan.
