Kinetic Games’ title is coming to another platform. However, it should be noted that the developers are risking overextending themselves.
Phasmophobia is a cooperative horror game in which players investigate hauntings in eerie locations. On the Nintendo Switch 2, groups of up to four ghost hunters can join together online and begin exploring the game’s 14 maps, including the newest addition for this year: Nell’s Diner.
“We’re thrilled to announce that Phasmophobia is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. It’s something that our community and everyone at Kinetic Games has wanted for a long time, so we’re thrilled that this long-kept secret is finally out. With version 1.0 on track for release in 2026, it’s an exciting time for new players to experience the game. We’re thrilled that Switch 2 players will be able to join us for all the new content coming in 2025 and explore the wealth of content we’ve added throughout the year,” said Kinetic Games CEO and game director Daniel Knight in a press release.
Phasmophobia was first released on PC in early access on September 18, 2020. It remained exclusive for nearly four years until it was released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series on October 29, 2024, still in early access. Sony’s current-gen console has a little extra: PlayStation VR2 is also supported. Nothing proves the game’s success better than its sales results, as official data shows that more than 25 million copies have been sold to date.
Phasmophobia will be available on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. According to Knight, the game will reach version 1.0 by then, ending early access after more than five years. This is a significant milestone for the game. Presumably, games still in development cannot be released on the Nintendo platform, so Kinetic Games needs to hurry and release the hit game as version 1.0.
