Spyro 4: Is Toys For Bob, Now Independent, Still Working for Microsoft? [VIDEO]

A developer’s résumé reveals that Spyro the Dragon will embark on a new adventure, meaning the purple dragon will also have a new story after Crash.

Fans of the Activision (Microsoft)-owned dragon platform series can celebrate this Christmas, as it has been leaked that Spyro 4 is in development. A YouTuber named Canadian Guy Eh first noticed that a former Toys for Bob developer had indicated on LinkedIn that he had been working on Spyro for nearly two years until March 2024. Given the timeline, this cannot be the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, which debuted on November 13, 2018, for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and on the PC and Nintendo Switch on September 3, 2019. It is likely to be Toys for Bob’s next project.

However, it should be noted that the Novato, California studio was temporarily assigned to develop Call of Duty: Warzone in 2021. Toys for Bob later released Crash Team Rumble, a 4v4 team-based multiplayer game, in June 2023. However, it was not a big success. By March 2024, the studio had decided to become independent from Microsoft. Rumors suggest, however, that their first independent project will still be developed in collaboration with Microsoft and will therefore be based on one of their IPs. One of these IPs is sure to be Spyro, with which Toys for Bob is familiar. Rumors about Spyro 4 started circulating five years ago when Toys for Bob’s official art book for Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time was revealed to contain new concept art of the cute purple dragon.

While we wait for the official announcement, Spyro Reignited Trilogy is currently discounted by 65% on PC via Steam and Xbox. PlayStation users can only purchase it at full price ($40) on the PlayStation Store. Spyro Reignited Trilogy is also available on Game Pass Premium and Ultimate, allowing you to access modernized versions of the three games as part of your subscription.
