He only served as director for one installment, but he still has ties to the franchise.
There are only a few days left until the release of Resident Evil: Requiem, the ninth installment in Capcom’s popular horror franchise. It’s an exciting time for fans, but also a tense one, as there are plenty of spoilers on the internet. While Capcom has asked fans not to share spoilers, industry icon and Resident Evil 2 director Hideki Kamiya has a different opinion.
In a statement, Capcom asked fans not to publish or share leaks and spoilers before the release of Resident Evil: Requiem. The company added that its legal team will remove pre-release posts to preserve the first-day experience for players. The statement concludes with the observation that there isn’t much time left until the game’s release and that they can’t wait to see fans’ reactions after it comes out. Kamiya wasn’t so kind about the leaks:
“I remember with Resident Evil 2, the late-game plot twist was completely revealed by a photo magazine, right? For your own selfish satisfaction, you’re trampling all over the feelings of users who were looking forward to it and the feelings of the creators who poured their all into making it—a detestable act that destroys everyone’s happiness and deserves a thousand deaths. May you be cursed to never play games again,” he wrote.
With games this big, it’s more surprising when they don’t leak ahead of time. However, once physical copies hit stores, leaks almost always happen. As much as Kamiya despises this practice, there will always be people who can’t wait a few more days. Resident Evil Requiem is set to release on February 27 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
