The Blood of Dawnwalker: It Will Resemble One of the New Zelda Games in One Respect!

It’s hard to imagine, but the game from Rebel Wolves and Nintendo really does have one thing in common!

The upcoming third-person action RPG is the subject of Game Informer’s latest cover story. For the story, the magazine traveled to Warsaw, Poland, to speak with key developers from the team, most of whom previously worked at CD Projekt RED on The Witcher III: Wild Hunt. One of the game’s defining features is the dual nature of the protagonist, Coen. He is a Dawnwalker, a rare species of vampire capable of walking in daylight, even after his transformation.

Nevertheless, players must carefully manage Coen’s vampire hunger to prevent him from losing self-control and draining friendly NPCs. Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, the creative director of The Blood of Dawnwalker, noted that preserving this vampire drawback was important because without it, Coen would just seem like a superhero.

“We have this narrative sandbox structure where we let you out into the world. You have the main goal, and then you have all these different quests and activities. On purpose, we don’t call them main or side quests – just quests. Some of them are bigger, some smaller. They can chain together or not. If you don’t pay attention to Coen’s hunger, you might miss out on some content or kill an NPC you care about. It can be controversial, but what’s important to us is making you feel like you have to deal with this vampiric hunger constantly. It’s always present, and without it, you’re basically just a superhero with special abilities.

I think it adds an extra layer of weight and darkness to his adventure. There is plenty of wiggle room for you to shape him however you want. You can decide how far he succumbs to vampire corruption. For example, you can make choices that desensitize him to violence. Or, you can stay true to the idea that he’s a character who stays true to his human side. I want to do good things. I want to avoid delving into this darker side of things,” Tomaszkiewicz said.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is special because, just like in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, it can be completed immediately if you storm the enemy’s castle and rescue Coen’s family. However, the developers recommend slowing down, immersing yourself in the stories they’ve created, exploring the world, and unlocking more options to make Coen’s mission easier. Those who want to explore everything the game has to offer can expect to spend up to 70 hours on it.

The Blood of Dawnwalker will be released on September 3 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.
