According to rumors, the biggest technical hurdle preventing Rockstar and Take-Two’s game from reaching Nintendo’s hybrid platform may have been overcome.
Grand Theft Auto VI is currently set to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles, but another platform, Nintendo Switch 2, could receive the game sometime in the future.
The first insider to raise that possibility was Nate the Hate. Last November, he said Rockstar Games was exploring whether a Switch 2 port of the game would be feasible. Two other insiders have now offered new information.
The first was Spanish insider Nash Weedle, who wrote that technical hurdles have been overcome and specialists in Switch 2 porting have been brought in under a subcontracting agreement. However, he continues to hear that the game will not release this year. He also added that other insiders had received information about the port from their own sources.
A few hours later, another insider, Shpeshal_Nick, replied that as far as he knew, he had not heard that the game was coming to Switch 2. He had, however, heard that Nintendo itself was working with Rockstar and Take-Two in an effort to make the port happen.
For what it’s worth, I haven’t heard “it’s coming” but I’ve heard they’re working with Rockstar/Take Two to make to try and make it happen https://t.co/VQTsdm12gL

Grand Theft Auto has only appeared on Nintendo platforms a handful of times, mostly on handheld systems. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, comprising GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas, launched for Nintendo Switch. Grand Theft Auto and Grand Theft Auto 2 came to Game Boy Color, Grand Theft Auto Advance arrived on Game Boy Advance, and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars released for Nintendo DS.
The biggest obstacle is naturally optimization. Still, a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Grand Theft Auto VI may seem less impossible than it did on previous generations simply because the game has already needed to be optimized to run on Xbox Series S.
It is possible that Rockstar, perhaps alongside a partner such as Nintendo itself, could optimize the game to run at 30 FPS.
