Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo will soon release a major content expansion for Nioh 3. The Hell Rising DLC introduces a new story, enemies, equipment, and difficulty mode.
The expansion follows our protagonist, Takechiyo, the appointed shogun, as he travels through time and is guided to a future version of Edo by an unknown yokai he encountered in a dream. Following the death of the future Takechiyo, the era of peace has ended, and the Crucible has retaken Edo. With the help of a one-eyed swordsman named Yagyu Jubei and a Spanish envoy named Rodrigo, Takechiyo must face another conspiracy revolving around Spirit Stones, as well as an enemy who harbors a deep hatred for the shogunate.
Edo was supposed to be surrounded by peace in 1651, during the Keian era. However, the vast castle town that once demonstrated the shogunate’s authority has been transformed into a hellish wasteland ravaged by the gales of the Crucible. Yokai, human rebels, and alchemists from foreign lands have descended upon Edo, turning the castle town into a chaotic battlefield. In the shogun’s absence, yokai have overrun several areas of Edo. New encounters await Takechiyo amid tense battles against unfamiliar yokai and newly emerging mysteries.
A new weapon set balances the offensive capabilities of the short spear with the defensive power of the shield. The Hoko & Shield and Ninja Hoko & Shield can be used in many different ways, ranging from basic techniques, such as attacking with the short spear while defending with the shield, to tactical maneuvers like hurling the shield at an enemy. Takechiyo faces opponents of unprecedented strength, including the one-eyed swordsman Yagyu Jubei. Dominate fierce battles, obtain new equipment, and collect Soul Cores to become even stronger. The Enlightened One’s Journey, a difficulty mode that surpasses Shogun’s Journey, will also become available. It offers additional growth opportunities, including stronger equipment, more Soul Cores, higher level caps, and higher +value limits through Soul Matching. Players must first complete the game on Shogun’s Journey to unlock it.
Take on highly customizable battles repeatedly while carefully selecting the effects of the Hundred Demon Realms Picture Scrolls to create personal challenges. Winning the unique battle associated with each scroll unlocks it as a piece of equipment, while further victories give players a chance to obtain special effects. The combination of enemies, stages, and special rules creates countless variations, and extremely valuable scrolls may occasionally appear. This feature is available in both single-player and multiplayer modes. We can train alongside our friends and challenge ourselves across millions of different battlefields. Other new elements include Guardian Spirits, skills, martial arts, ninjutsu, onmyo magic, graces, and much more.
Nioh 3: Hell Rising will be released on August 19 for PlayStation 5 and PC. Season Pass owners will receive this expansion as well as the second DLC, Bloody Insurrection, which is still in development.
