MOVIE NEWS – Days of Thunder 2 will officially race into theaters on June 2, 2028, with Tom Cruise returning as Cole Trickle. Anne Hathaway’s addition immediately turns the legacy sequel into one of the most intriguing action projects on the horizon.
Paramount Pictures is bringing Tony Scott’s 1990 racing movie back more than three decades after the original. Cruise will once again play fearless NASCAR driver Cole Trickle, while the production aims to combine the first film’s high-speed identity with a story built for a new generation.
Official details about Hathaway’s character remain limited, but the first released image places her beside Cruise and a green-and-yellow race car. The two stars have also playfully teased their upcoming shoot at the Daytona racing venue.
Jonathan Levine is directing from a screenplay by Will Staples. Jerry Bruckheimer, Tom Cruise and Tommy Harper are producing, and the movie is being designed with an IMAX presentation in mind.
The plot remains under wraps, so Hathaway’s precise connection to Cole Trickle has not yet been revealed. Even so, the casting and the racetrack setting shown so far make it clear that NASCAR will remain central to the sequel.
Days of Thunder 2 is scheduled to open in US theaters on June 2, 2028. With Cruise’s current action-movie momentum and such a long development period, the sequel is shaping up as considerably more than a simple nostalgia exercise.
