MOVIE NEWS – Director Bryan Singer has shown a new photo on his Instagram page this weekend, showing our first glimpse at The Blob in X-Men: Apocalypse.
Earlier today, 20th Century Fox revealed that a new trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse will start tomorrow, Monday, April 25. Director Bryan Singer is still in post-production, laying the finishing touches on this highly- awaited superhero flick, and over the weekend, the director has shown a new photo that gives us our first glimpse at a character we didn’t even know was included in the movie: The Blob. At the same time, the image gives us a new look at Ben Hardy’s Archangel, who was apparently engaging in a martial arts cage match with this overweight mutant.
The director’s subtitle on his Instagram photo reads, “Mutant Martial Arts. Light as a feather,” while the photo shows The Blob knocked out cold in the middle of this cage. It is still undecided who is actually portraying The Blob, a.k.a. Fred Dukes, who, in the comics, was a corpulent circus freak who has superhuman strength and claims to be “immovable” when he so desires.
Since this photo shows The Blob knocked out cold, perhaps he’ll be using a new set of powers for this film. The Blob was previously portrayed by Kevin Durand in the 2009 superhero prequel X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Next to the critically acclaimed global smash hit X-Men: Days of Future Past, director Bryan Singer revisits with X-Men: Apocalypse. Ever since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Awakening after thousands of years, he is disappointed with the world as he perceive it and recruits a team of powerful mutants known as The Four Horsemen, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign.
Since the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must command a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest opponent and save mankind from complete destruction.
Reprising their roles from X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past are Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Rose Byrne (Moira McTaggert), Evan Peters (Quicksilver). New cast members include Oscar Isaac as the villainous Apocalypse, Olivia Munn as Psylocke, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler.
X-Men: Apocalypse will arrive at the theaters on May 27, 2016, putting it up against Disney’s Alice Through the Looking Glass, setting up what could be a huge box office showdown. This latest X-Men movie will close out the prequel trilogy that includes X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past. The studio is also working on the spinoff Gambit, which will start production later this year, while also developing The New Mutants. Take a look at the latest photo from X-Men: Apocalypse, and stay tuned for more as we get closer and closer to the May 27 release date.
