Ubisoft’s CEO Talks About A Post-Console Future [VIDEO]

Yves Guillemot also said that he wants to have five billion (not million!) gamers around the world in a decade.

Guillemot participated in a fan-made Q&A during E3, and he talked about several subjects in this video. He’s a publisher head that tends to talk more openly about the future than the others (for example, he considers the next PlayStation and Xbox the last „ordinary” consoles). In the video below, he expressed how he sees the future:

„What I said, is maybe the next cycle of consoles will happen, but there will not be another one. What we are dreaming of, is that technology will allow us to stream our games to TVs, mobile phones, and tablets in the future, giving all our brands an opportunity to reach 2.5 billion players in maybe five years and perhaps 5 billion players in 10 years. We are very excited about that new opportunity.

The other thing is to use big farms of servers to create games we couldn’t dream of creating before. […] [It would be] a game that’s very alive, responsive to everything you do, remembering what you’ve done, and anticipating your needs.”

That comment is bold by the French company’s CEO. He said the following regarding Beyond Good & Evil 2: „I hope so. I think that team can create the best game on the planet. If we take the time and energy, we will have something that’s the best game ever done.” (That seems way too extreme to say…) Is a new Splinter Cell in the works? „I heard that question a lot during E3. We don’t have something to announce at the moment, but we heard loud and clear that you like [the Splinter Cell] brand.” (Nice PR-talk there…)

He also commented on the friendship that Nintendo and Ubisoft shares: „It’s very strong because we’ve done many things together in the past. Nintendo’s capacity to create fantastic games is something our creators at Ubisoft love, and when they can collaborate with Nintendo, they are thrilled to do so. So, yes, it will continue, and I hope we’ll be able to surprise you with new things in the future.”

Hm, the next Xbox, which was rumoured to be several products, could already shift towards streaming. Is Yves right? We might see next year… or maybe in 2020.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
