Crackdown Creator Talks About His Departure From Crackdown 3

David Jones, who previously worked on the first two Grand Theft Auto games (as well as APB), talked about his departure from his franchise.

Jones’ comments to GamesIndustry seemingly downplays his role, as well as Reagent Games’ (which seems to be dead) participation in Crackdown 3, which is now developed by Sumo Digital (LittleBigPlanet 3):

„I suppose it’s because there just wasn’t much to talk about… I don’t think there’s anything secretive there. Reagent was a tiny number of people that came together to help out Crackdown, especially in the early days. Cloudgine was there to help with technology, and I was there really because I had been there for so long. I was helping to find a direction for Crackdown 3.

[Moving on from the project] was tough, but just the right thing to do at the right time.  In an ideal world, it could have been finished faster, and I would have been able to see it through to the end. But to be honest, I look back at other gaming franchises I’ve worked on, and they’ve done well without me being there as well, as long as the DNA is there and the right foundations are there.”

So Jones doesn’t seem to have had a significant role in Crackdown 3‘s development. The game, after having been in development for several years, will launch in early 2019 on Xbox One and Windows 10. Will it flop outright, or will it be successful? We don’t know yet.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
