Bethesda has pulled off a small ban wave during Christmas in Fallout 76 (which launched 1.5 months ago, possibly with not-so-good sales…).
First, a YouTuber called JuiceHead talked about the bans, which happened due to people using third-party software for cheating (like CheatEngine?). After the usage, getting banned is not that surprising, but here comes the usual twist in the story: Bethesda offers a way out for the alleged cheaters…
Those who got banned received an email that has a specific sentence that we’ll quote. „If you would like to appeal this account closure, we would be willing to accept an essay on “why the use of third-party cheat software is detrimental to an online game community”, for our management team to review.” The issue here is that people who didn’t cheat (they had the program open, but they didn’t use it) could have also been banned.
Bethesda hasn’t detailed yet what is allowed and what isn’t (like mods?) – last year, Destiny 2’s PC port, which uses Battle.net, got users banned for using a harmless Discord overlay. We need to wait for the details to have a clear overview. Until then, here’s a video.
