Jumanji: The Video Game: A Game Along The Movie (Almost) [VIDEO]

While the 2019 Jumanji film is in progress, a game is going to be made as well.

Outright Games and Funsolve announced that Funsolve is working with Sony Pictures on a game, which will come out roughly a month before the movie does. „Unite in adventure and laughter in the action-packed game of Jumanji, as you try to survive the ultimate challenge for those seeking to leave their world behind! Only you and three teammates can recover the Jewels and save Jumanji. So get online, gather friends for split-screen play, or go alone with AI companions. There’s an army of evil marauders to take on, deadly beasts and traps to dodge, and cool customizations to unlock. And with heroes Dr Bravestone, Ruby, Mouse, and Prof. Oberon as your avatars, you know you’ve got the unique abilities –and hilarious failings –to save the day!”, the press release says. It also mentions that „the world of Jumanji gets bigger with beautiful but deadly new mountain, city and jungle environments,” and that you „unlock new outfits and weapon styles; no two rounds of Jumanji are ever the same,” which probably means the game could be procedurally generated. (If it worked for No Man’s Sky, why not?)

Funsolve, which was founded in 2015, might be completely unfamiliar, which is why we have our doubts about the game’s quality. (The team looks quite small, and it’s probably their first game – their slowly loading website doesn’t seem to even mention their previous work so far…)

Jumanji: The Video Game is out on November 15 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC. (The film, which officially has no title yet, will be debuting on December 13.) We have a question: although the split-screen gameplay sounds good, where on Earth is the board game part? We vaguely recall it from the ’95 film, as well as the ’96-’99 animated series…
