In one week, two more people left BioWare behind – it’s getting worrying…
This time, Dragon Age 4‘s (the name is not official…) lead producer, Fernando Melo has decided to move on from BioWare, who have seen better days. Previously, he was the senior producer of Dragon Age: Origins, and Dragon Age 2, then he became the director of online development in 2011 until 2015 when he began focusing on the online portion of Mass Effect: Andromeda. Then, he got the lead producer position in the next Dragon Age game, which is codenamed, Morrison.
„Today was my last day at BioWare. After 12 years… that’s a heck of a lot of feels. 🙂 Tonight I got to write my name up at our local pub, alongside many other amazing peers over the years, and it reminded me of a lot of folks no longer here that I miss dearly. There’s no easy way, to sum up, all the fantastic experiences and friendships across our studios, our partners, and in our community, that I’ve been so fortunate to have been a part of over these years. […] To be clear, this is my own decision. I’ve been wanting to take some time to disconnect and explore a couple of ideas for the next chapter in my career. So what’s next… well, watch this space :)”, Melo wrote in multiple tweets.
In another tweet, he has shared the parting email sent to his ex-colleagues, and from it, all we need to quote is that „Morrison is well underway to becoming the definitive Dragon Age experience.” He didn’t use the term game here – maybe we’re overthinking things.
So the list of departures is hurtful: Dragon Age creative director Mark Laidlaw, Dragon Age writer David Gaider, Mass Effect writer Drew Karpyshyn, general manager Aaryn Flynn, Baldur’s Gate and Dragon age lead designer James Ohlen, and Anthem lead producer Ben Irving is followed by Melo out the door.
After all these events, no wonder we are not optimistic about BioWare’s future…
