Bayonetta 3, which was announced during the 2017 The Game Awards, might have been somewhat forgotten recently.
Bayonetta was one of the best PlatinumGames titles nearly a decade ago, so it’s no surprise it got a sequel, although it was funded by Nintendo, so the IP, owned by SEGA, got the next instalment exclusively on the Nintendo Wii U five years ago, but since then, Hideki Kamiya’s creation got ported along with the first game to the highly successful Nintendo Switch (he previously directed Resident Evil 2, Viewtiful Joe, and Okami at Capcom, followed by Bayonetta and The Wonderful 101 at PlatinumGames, while also supervising Bayonetta 2).
Kamiya wasn’t a man of words when he revealed what the situation is regarding Bayonetta 3 (he often tends to block people on Twitter, especially recently, as he expects people to tweet him in Japanese): „Development’s going really well. There you go.” – a round of applause, please!
Bayonetta 3 could be the number one project for PlatinumGames at the moment, especially after releasing Astral Chain for the Switch (which was also supervised by Kamiya). However, there’s also Babylon’s Fall, which Square Enix plans to launch on PlayStation 4 and PC, but we believe that the game, which was announced at E3 2018, will be silently pushed over to the next generation. Kamiya wrote after the game’s announcement that he doesn’t work on the game, and if we ask him about it ever again, we will be blocked.
Bayonetta 3 will launch probably in 2020, exclusively on the Nintendo Switch, likely due to Nintendo funding the development once again. We’ll likely hear more about the game during the E3 Nintendo Direct (as the big N doesn’t go to Los Angeles, but time the broadcast to fit the schedule).
