Is Fable And Perfect Dark Coming Back? Microsoft Denies

Two of Microsoft‘s IPs might be returning in the next console generation.

Fable’s original developer team, Lionhead (led by Peter Molyneux) no longer exists, but a few years ago, we had rumours that Playground Games, the team behind the Forza Horizon series, has expanded to two studios to work on the next Fable. Last year’s E3 had Matt Booty, the head of Xbox Game Studios, say that Microsoft held back a few games for 2020. Perfect Dark is an FPS series that started its life on the Nintendo 64, developed by Rare. It’s an IP that never got a PC version (we are not counting emulation…), while Fable had several episodes available on our computers.

„I’m not sure who discovered the @fable and @PerfectDarkGame placeholders, but a Microsoft Xbox employee is following one, and the other is registered to a Microsoft email address,” The Verge’s Tom Warren wrote on Twitter. (If his name is familiar, you are right: we discussed what he said about the Xbox Series S earlier today.) Both accounts are set to private, so we wouldn’t find anything on them at the moment.

„ I know everyone is hungry for news but sorry to get your hopes up. These accounts have been inactive for years, it’s standard practice to secure social handles for our IP,” Aaron Greenberg, the head of Xbox’ marketing, replied on Twitter.

He could be right, but Fable’s account’s join date is March, while Perfect Dark’s is June, respectively. If you deactivate and reactivate a Twitter account and it modifies the date, then yeah, he might be right. But what if he’s lying? Then Playground Games’ rumours might be proven…

We might get answers in July.
