Some of the first owners of the new console are unlucky.
On Reddit, ResetEra, and Twitter, we see what kind of problems the PlayStation 5 has, and in a few cases, a factory reset seems to be the only way of repairing the console, but we also saw cases where the PlayStation 5 has become an overpriced back-rest of some sorts.
The external hard drives seem to be one of the main issues. These allow you to play PlayStation 4 games (as PlayStation 5 titles are required to be played and stored on the internal SSD), but many players ended up seeing their PlayStation 5s crash, followed by a rebuild database error, which, in worse cases, could cause further trouble, or even a bricked console.
The other problem comes if you put the console into rest mode while playing a game – especially Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered – leading to the database rebuilding error. Issues also happened while transferring PlayStation 4 data to the PlayStation 5, especially via a LAN cable, and if that’s not enough, IGN adds that games don’t seem to download whatsoever.
It tends to happen to the first game or app in a download queue. We either end up seeing a „Queued for Download” note or that it failed to download. Both prompts you to look at the Downloads menu, which is going to be empty. The games and apps that face the issue are Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (the PlayStation 4 version seems to be fine – Activision Blizzard recommends a factory reset, which does seem to fix the issue!), Godfall, Demon’s Souls, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, and the Disney+ app.
Sony hasn’t responded to the issues yet, but it does show there is a long way to go. We are afraid of the European launch, due November 19…
