The Xbox Series‘ controller might receive a new variant that includes Sony’s functions.

If we compare the two (three…) consoles’ controllers (and only those), then it’s safe to say that the PlayStation 5‘s DualSense emerges victorious due to its technicalities, as well as the experience it provides, due to the haptic feedback and the adaptive triggers (the latter has been discussed to be somewhat of an issue already, especially for the R2, as many users have noticed it to not work as it should after a month or so), but Microsoft‘s controller is mostly a run-of-the-mill solution from this aspect, which is we could call it even outdated.

TechRadar reported about a survey that was sent out to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S owners. In it, one of the subjects was „I am aware of features on PlayStation controllers that I wish were on the controller that came with this console.” It had a one-to-five scale (One = strongly disagree, Three = Neither agree nor disagree, Five = Strongly agree), with the sixth option being „I am not aware of the features on the PlayStation controller.” They also ask about the Share button, or how skilled we are at using the controller.

This question is intentional. If many users lack the functions the DualSense offers, then Microsoft will implement them in the next controller. The next Xbox controller is potentially the third iteration of the Elite controller (and it’s possibly going to cost more than the DualSense), which means the new functions wouldn’t have as much of a reach as Sony’s side (who has inexplicably shut down almost all PlayStation 4 models’ production yesterday, which feels like a rushed move).

It’s not official yet, but going by the survey, Phil Spencer’s team may have a few ideas up the sleeve. We might learn about them shortly, maybe even at this year’s E3, IF it will be held.
