The Call of Duty trailer shows the many faces of war and hints at what to expect from the game’s unveiling on Thursday. Just one more night to sleep!
Activision has released a teaser trailer for its latest title, Call of Duty: Vanguard, revealing several playable characters. Call of Duty has quite a troubled history, with the series bouncing from historical World War II games through the modern era to futuristic eras. Still, this campaign footage, which features combat, crashed planes and torn uniforms, confirms that the franchise is returning to a historical period for the latest instalment.
Although the trailer shows campaign footage only, it keeps the gameplay under wraps by not showing any actual shootouts, mechanics or specific locations. Call of Duty has attempted to make its games historically accurate in the past and step away from reality and create a new, fictional story within the historical landscape.
Each war-torn battleground cuts into a different face etched into the environment, possibly suggesting that players will be able to control more than one protagonist in the latest story mode. More information on this is likely to be revealed later this week, as the worldwide unveiling of the new title will take place on August 19, within their battle royale game Warzone.
In recent years, much of the Call of Duty fanbase, as well as professional gamers, have voiced their displeasure with the game’s “multiplayer matchmaking” system, the ranked system (or lack thereof), and the seeming absence of new, unique maps, as Call of Duty brings back a lot of maps from previous titles year after year. Players are expected to know whether their voices have been heard tomorrow when the official unveiling takes place.
