MOVIE NEWS – Producer Nate Moore said Wilson will have to earn the title and shield to become the new Captain America
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier focused on Sam Wilson’s path to taking on the role of Captain America for good. However, it seems that Marvel Studios is not yet ready to let the hero go quietly as Steve Rogers’ successor.
While there aren’t many official details about the film’s plot yet, producer Nate Moore recently hinted that Sam will face several challenges in Captain America 4.
As you may recall, Captain America 4 was announced shortly after the end of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and with Malcolm Spellman as part of the creative team, it will continue Sam’s story as the new Captain America.
But it seems that this film will not completely leave behind the complications Sam faced in the series. It will explore the challenges that the hero who previously operated as Falcon will have to overcome as he becomes Captain America without the Super Soldier serum that helped Steve Rogers so much.
“I think (Sam Wilson) is not Steve Rogers, and I think that’s a good thing,” Moore said. “Because to me, this new Cap is Rocky. He’s going to be the underdog in any situation. He’s not a Super Soldier. He’s not a hundred years old. He doesn’t have the Avengers. What is it with this guy publicly announcing something like this without the support? ‘I’m the new Captain America.’ Then what happens next? I think it’s fascinating because he’s just a guy. He’s a guy with wings and a shield, but he’s a guy.”
“So, we’re going to put him through the wringer and make him earn it and see what happens when he is outweighed, outclassed, out-everything. What makes somebody Captain America? I’m going to argue it’s not being a Super Soldier. And I think we’re going to prove that with Mackie and Sam Wilson” he added. In other words, regardless of the villain that puts this story ahead, it seems that the plot of Captain America 4 will seek to show how Sam can be Captain America even though he’s just an ordinary human.
Not much else is known about Captain America 4 for now, but it’s good to see that they’re already working on something and doing it from a new perspective. While this revamp isn’t pleasing all fans and critics, as was noted with the Eternals rating, there’s no denying that it’s long overdue and, as is always the case, there will come the point of stability that we’ll get used to. The MCU has achieved something unprecedented, and if it wants to maintain interest in a genre that has already been exploited by many, it’s important to find points to connect with new audiences and new generations. Anthony Mackie is very excited to return as the lead for a solo film and is confident that his Captain America will make a sincere connection with his audience.
Captain America 4 does not yet have a release date.
