Ubisoft, the French publisher’s lack of care elevated to higher levels…

Tara Johnson Reichley, Ubisoft’s customer relationship centre head, wrote on the company’s forums that anyone who files a support ticket to request fixing Splinter Cell Blacklist’s online features will be banned. The ban not only means bidding farewell to Sam Fisher’s adventures but also Ubisoft’s games. Why? Because Yves Guillemot’s team doesn’t plan to restore the online and co-op features of the older Splinter Cell title.

Here’s Reichley’s post: “Any support tickets submitted regarding this issue in the future will be met with a seven-day ban. During this period, you will be unable to make purchases through the Ubisoft store, log in to Ubisoft websites, log in to your Ubisoft account or play through the Ubisoft Connect client. However, you may still play offline. Customer support will not be able to lift this ban. Further offences will be met with a permanent ban. In addition, any users intentionally using an earlier version of Ubisoft Connect or Uplay launchers to work around the issue will be banned. Older versions of Ubisoft Connect are no longer secure, and continuing to make use of them could result in security breaches to your Ubisoft account or Ubisoft as a whole.”

Previously, Might & Magic X: Legacy had a similar issue, where (despite being a single-player title) players had no access to the DLC, as it required connecting to servers. However, at least Ubisoft fixed the problem after a while, and we admit that we need to eat the humble pie, as we didn’t believe they would restore the game into a functional state. Still, after all these events, Ubisoft wonders why people would consider pirating their games, especially since all of them have Denuvo in them?

But here’s the kicker of the story: Reichley’s thread has been deleted. Ubisoft claims someone was impersonating the employee, but they sounded like a PR response, especially how the thread was stickied with replies disabled. That is something only admins and moderators can do. So let’s give a round of applause to the French company for their excellent situation handling…
