Italian Castle From The Godfather 3 Goes On Sale For $7 Million

MOVIE NEWS – The original Sicilian castle that was used as a location in Coppola’s The Godfather: Part III is on sale at Sotheby’s Realty for $7 million

The Godfather: Part III was released on Christmas Day 1990, 16 years after the previous entry in the legendary trilogy that began with the original 1972 mob classic. Francis Ford Coppola returned to direct the third entry, and although the film was poorly received by audiences, it was still nominated for 7 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director, although it won neither, even though its two predecessors did.

The Godfather: Part III is the origin of the iconic line, “just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in”. It follows an older Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) dealing with family problems and struggling with guilt over murdering his brother. As he tries to mend his failing marriage and estrangement from his children, he tries to find a successor so he can leave the organised crime business once and for all.

This week, a new listing appeared on Sotheby’s Realty announcing the sale of a beautiful Sicilian castle. Although it is not listed, presumably because Sotheby’s key demographic is not necessarily film fans, it is, in fact, the location used in The Godfather: Part III, although it also appeared in other films of the era, including 1969’s That Splendid November.

The castle is on the market for 6 million euros, which converts to approximately 7 million dollars (just over 5,750 million Chilean pesos).

The listing includes many specifications of the fabulous property. The castle has 22 bedrooms, although it only has eight bathrooms. This may be due to the fact that it was built in 1800 before running water was a common service. The house itself is 4,000 square metres and sits on a property of 8,500 square metres.

It’s always fun to see classic movie real estate come on the market. One of the most recent examples before the castle from The Godfather: Part III was the house from A Nightmare on Elm Street, which closed on Halloween 2021.

However, the more common modern trend has been for the owners of such places to list them on Airbnb for exclusive special events rather than sell the properties outright. This has been the case for a few places recently, including the Italian villa in Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci and the original Stu Macher house from 1996’s Scream. But whether buying or visiting, it’s always great to be able to step into a piece of film history.
