Will Hogwarts Legacy Not Be Released This Year?!

I It doesn’t sound good to hear in the first month of the year that the Hogwarts Legacy release scheduled for this year after the postponement isn’t sure to happen either.

VGC, based on the Sacred Symbols+ podcast behind a paywall on Patreon, reports that Hogwarts Legacy will not be released by the end of 2022. Colin Moriarty, the podcast host, said, “I’m hearing behind the scenes that game is not coming out this year and that it’s in some sort of trouble.” It sounds reasonable, as we haven’t officially seen the game in a long time, with only “2022” given as a release date. (Warner doesn’t trust it either, huh?)

Late last year, Warner Bros. general manager Rachel Wakely gave Toy World magazine some thoughts on the Wizarding World IP, including J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter book series. Wakely said there would be two big releases in 2022. One of them will be a film called Legendary Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, which should be in the cinemas by April, and the second should be Hogwarts Legacy. Wakely said the release would be worth waiting for and give fans a unique way to interact with the franchise.

We get from this that the Hogwarts Legacy will not be released before The Legendary Beasts: Secrets of Dumbledore, but well after. We’ve also heard that the game will allow transgender characters to be created, but otherwise, the project is kept secret, which doesn’t sound very reassuring. Development hell, Potter?

Avalanche Software is developing Hogwarts Legacy. Disney shut this team down in May 2016 after the Disney Infinity series (video games with figures) went bust, but Warner announced in January 2017 that they had acquired the studio, which they then reopened. The game is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
