More Yakuza Games Coming To PlayStation Plus In August!

Yesterday, Sony announced the PlayStation Plus Essential games for August, but now, we’re talking about more games than just those three.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced on the PlayStation Blog that more games from the Ryu Ga Gotoku series (it is Yakuza’s original name in Japan) will be available to PlayStation Plus subscribers. More from the now-different Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio (studio director and Yakuza’s executive director Toshihiro Nagoshi has since formed his team under NetEase) will be available. However, an entry-level PlayStation Plus Essential will not be enough.

Yakuza: Like A Dragon (PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4) will be the first game in the Yakuza series to be available. It will be available from August a2 s part of the PlayStation Plus Essential trio of games. But for those of you waiting for the older, beat’em up style of gameplay rather than the JRPG-style gameplay with turn-based battles, be patient. Yakuza 0 (PlayStation 4; but also playable on PlayStation 5 due to backwards compatibility, but PS4 only means no native PS5 version), Yakuza Kiwami (PlayStation 4) and Yakuza Kiwami 2 (PlayStation 4) will be added later in August. All three games require a PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium subscription.

In 2022, PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers will receive Yakuza 3 Remastered (PlayStation 4), Yakuza 4 Remastered (PlayStation 4), and Yakuza 5 Remastered (PlayStation 4), but PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers are also being catered for: players with a PS Plus Extra or Premium subscription will also be able to play Yakuza 6: The Song of Life (PlayStation 4).

So the first two episodes will be remakes, 3-5 will be remasters, and 0 and 6 will be available on PlayStation 4, while 7 (as Yakuza: Like a Dragon is essentially that) will be a cross-gen title with a native PlayStation 5 version. It’s just that this game will only be accessible for a month. So eight games is more like seven, with only three coming in August and no word on when the rest will be available this year.
