Ana De Armas Did Not Feel “Exploited” During The Making Of Blonde

MOVIE NEWS – Ana de Armas was totally immersed in the role of Marilyn Monroe in Blonde, and she had to shoot some tough scenes to do it.

Although Ana de Armas could have easily felt exploited by the more hardcore scenes she had to shoot for Netflix’s Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde, the actress recently explained that this was not the case at all. When it came to filming some of the scenes that may have been difficult to digest, the young actress said that being in control of what she did and didn’t do in front of the camera meant that although some viewers may find the visuals uncomfortable, she felt she was always in a safe environment and didn’t feel uncomfortable at all during filming.

Blonde is a biography of Marilyn Monroe interspersed with fictional elements, particularly from her rise to fame in the 1950s to her death in 1962.

While the film itself received mixed reviews, with some online groups criticising the casting choices, there was unanimous praise for Ana de Armas’ performance as the troubled Hollywood icon. The actress has already commented on the surprising NC-17 rating applied to the film due to its sexual content, but she also made it clear that there was nothing in the movie that made her unhappy and that she felt utterly safe shooting the scenes and had plenty of discussions before filming. Ana de Armas gave an interview to EW:

“It’s harder for people to watch [those scenes] than for me to make them, because I understood what I was doing and I felt very protected and safe. I didn’t feel exploited because I was in control. I made that decision. I knew what the movie I was doing. I trusted my director.”

“I felt like I was in a safe environment.”

“We had hundreds of conversations about these scenes. Everyone felt a deep respect for the movie we were making. And in that sense, I had no fear. I didn’t feel uncomfortable at all, even though they were really hard scenes.”

Although star Ana de Armas may not understand why Blonde earned the same rating as films that he believes have more graphic sexual content, many early viewers seem to agree with the rating committee that the film received the most severe rating. However, Ana de Armas is also aware that nude scenes will be posted on the internet out of context, but she knows there is nothing she can do to prevent this. She has previously said:

“It’s upsetting just to think about it. I can’t control it; you can’t really control what they do and how they take things out of context.”

“I don’t think it gave me second thoughts; it just gave me a bad taste to think about the future of those clips. I did things in this movie I would have never done for anyone else, ever. I did it for her, and I did it for [Blonde director Andrew Dominik].”

Blonde will be released on Netflix on September 28 and will no doubt top the streaming charts soon after the massive amount of press coverage.
