Bloober Team’s Kacper Michalski is considering the possibility of the studio returning to previous outings such as The Observer and The Medium.

In a recent interview, Kacper Michalski, who works as the head of production at Bloober Team, suggested that the developer could consider a sequel to narrative-focused horror games Observer and The Medium. The titles, released in 2017 and 2021, respectively, took the haunting atmosphere and compelling storytelling seen in the team’s breakthrough 2016 hit Layers of Fear. But it’s not just the Layers of Fear series that will return in the not-too-distant future. Other big-name projects could also eclipse the development team’s ambitions for a while.

The Polish developer started in 2010 and has released a handful of low-cost titles for Nintendo DS, DSi and mobile platforms. Things changed in 2016. That’s when the team discovered its penchant for survival horror. Since then, the studio has stuck entirely to the genre.

Observer has proven to be an excellent combination of dystopian sci-fi and horror, and The Medium has often been compared to the fan-favourite Silent Hill franchise.

Yet, while fans eagerly await the Bloober Team’s interpretation of Silent Hill, there is more going on behind the scenes. According to a brief interview with GamingBolt, sequels to some of the studio’s recent outings could happen at some point. It seems that these are still in the very early planning stages. If development has even started at all. As Michalski put it, “if we come up with a good idea on how to make a jump back to the universe of Observer or The Medium, then why not?”

This is far from a sure confirmation. But it does suggest that the team is already seriously planning future projects, despite the current workload.

The developer has reaffirmed its commitment to the horror genre; in late 2022, the studio announced that it would collaborate with The Outer Worlds publisher Private Division on an as-yet-unannounced survival horror experience.

This could be a huge year not only for Bloober Team but for horror games as well. In addition to the Silent Hill 2 remake, several new Silent Hill projects have been announced. The most notable projects are No Code Silent Hill Townfall and NeoBards Silent Hill f. Remastered versions of the titanic survival horror games Resident Evil 4 and Dead Space will also debut in 2023. As well as exciting new IPs such as Slitterhead further heighten our anticipation.
