A new update on the rumored development of a Metal Gear Solid remake gives us a window into when a remake of the classic game could be announced.
The latest update on a leaked piece of information that a Metal Gear Solid remake is in development has given us a window into when the game could be announced. Konami has already confirmed that it will now license its largest game property to partner studios, with the announcement of several major Silent Hill projects. According to the leak, Metal Gear Solid could be Konami’s next announcement, and the reveal could come surprisingly soon.
Metal Gear Solid is historically Konami’s biggest franchise alongside the Pro Evolution Soccer series, yet it has been strongly associated with the artistic work of the series’ creator, Hideo Kojima, for decades. Kojima went independent and Metal Gear Solid withered. However, Konami might be ready to bring Metal Gear Solid back to the fold. According to a recent rumor, a Metal Gear Solid remake has been in the works for years and will be developed exclusively for the PS5.
Now Spanish website Areajugones has shared an update on the leak. The update says that the source of the leak claims that a Metal Gear Solid remake will be revealed soon. More precisely, the announcement will take place before May 2023. In other words, it will probably arrive in the first quarter of 2023, somewhere around January, February, March or April. The announcement would thus fall on Konami’s current fiscal year.
No further details have been revealed about the rumored Metal Gear Solid project, nor when it is expected to be unveiled. However, if it is true that the Metal Gear Solid remake is being developed as a PlayStation 5 exclusive, it will likely be unveiled at a PlayStation event. PlayStation has held its State of Play event in February for the past two years. Metal Gear Solid fans may want to watch for a PlayStation State of Play event to be announced soon.
To be clear, this leak should be considered a rumor in the absence of official information and corroborating reports. While Areajugones has shared some accurate leaks in the past, including PlayStation-related leaks, there’s no guarantee that this leak will be accurate. If a Metal Gear Solid announcement is coming soon, fans won’t have to wait long for an official announcement.
It makes perfect sense for Konami to bring back Metal Gear Solid by reimagining such a classic game in the franchise. This is also a safer solution than jumping straight into a sequel, since it would be difficult to predict the audience’s reaction to a non-Kojima Metal Gear Solid game. If Konami and its partners can make a Metal Gear Solid like the Demon’s Souls remake, it would be a great way to start a new era for the franchise.
Metal Gear Solid is rumored to be coming to PS5 only.
