As the Diablo IV open beta approaches, Blizzard’s Rod Fergusson addresses the latest rumours that the game is coming to Xbox Game Pass.
The Diablo IV open beta approaches rapidly. Blizzard Senior Vice President Rod Fergusson responds to rumours circulating online. Most recently, he responded to reports that Blizzard’s action RPG could be coming to Xbox Game Pass. The game’s release is still scheduled for June, but fans can finally try it out thanks to an open beta period at the end of March.
In the meantime, Microsoft continues its attempt to buy Activision Blizzard, and while it seems that any solution is still a long way off, that hasn’t stopped Microsoft from planning its future with some big franchises like Call of Duty and the aforementioned Diablo.
Last year, Microsoft even promised that Activision Blizzard’s significant games would be included in Game Pass. This led many to speculate that the yet-to-be-released Diablo IV could follow the trend.
Rod Fergusson sought to clear things up. He went straight to the speculation and rumours surrounding Diablo IV via his Twitter account. While he admitted that it was great to see the excitement around the Open Beta, he confirmed that there had been a lot of questions about the game and Xbox Game Pass lately. Currently, Blizzard has no plans to release Diablo IV on Game Pass. So, for now, fans will be forced to purchase their own copy of the game.
Of course, things could change if Microsoft’s deal to acquire Activision Blizzard goes through in the coming months. For now, however, Fergusson’s confirmation ends this rumour.
During the online game, Fergusson also took the opportunity to answer a few more questions about the beta, confirming cross-platform cross-play and talking about the recently announced KFC crossover promotion.
The June release date for Diablo IV seems to have divided some fans. Blizzard has already set the stage for expectations by announcing that set items, which are gear that gives synergy and more power with more gear, will not be available at launch. Not incidentally, the title will be released alongside highly anticipated games. The likes of Final Fantasy XVI and Street Fighter 6; a few weeks after The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
