A voice actor playing a key villain in the upcoming Spider-Man 2 game has hinted at the game’s upcoming release date.
A voice actor has leaked the release month for Insomniac Game’s highly anticipated Spider-Man sequel. Specifically, the voice actor for Venom was quite open about when Spider-Man 2 will arrive in 2023.
Tony Todd, who voices the symbiote-infected Eddie Brock, aptly known as Venom, in Insomniac’s upcoming Spider-Man 2, announced via Twitter that he expects the game to be released sometime in September.
Citing the massive hype in August, Todd’s theory could be appealing based on his role in the game. However, no official announcement has yet been made to back up the claims. Todd issued another tweet shortly after the first one. (Presumably after being scolded by his employer). In this tweet, he simply wrote: “Oops”. Whether Spider-Man 2 arrives in September or sometime later, Insomniac has not yet backtracked on the previously announced 2023 release date.
Spider-Man 2 will be exclusive to PlayStation 5 at launch. This will allow Insomniac to take full advantage of the console’s significantly improved technology compared to PlayStation 4. Following the release of Spider-Man Remastered in 2020, significant improvements in game fidelity, sound quality and a decrease in load times led fans to speculate that the PlayStation 4’s ageing hardware was holding Spider-Man back in some ways. The exclusivity of the sequel to the new console has made gamers incredibly excited. They see the potential for a spectacular game that pushes the limits of the device.
Insomniac’s recent well-received titles confirm this speculation, as there are few studios that fans feel more confident in developing the medium further.
Expect more news from Insomniac in the coming months regarding the announcement and teaser trailer for Spider-Man 2. Sony doesn’t have a specific date for the next State of Play. The timing suggests that fans won’t have to wait long for more information surrounding one of the most anticipated titles of 2023.
