MOVIE NEWS – Jenna Ortega, who played the gothic daughter of the Addams Family in Netflix’s Wednesday series, is in talks to join some of the most anticipated horror movies of the decade. Ortega has already proven her skills in the thriller and horror genre, starring in films and shows like X, You, Scream (2022) and The Babysitter: Killer Queen. She gained even more fame with Wednesday, which became one of the most-watched series on Netflix, and cemented her reputation as a sought-after horror actress. After Wednesday, Ortega delivered an excellent performance as Tara Carpenter in the slasher sequel Scream 6.
Her next expected role was her comeback as the title character in Wednesday season 2, where she will also be an executive producer. However, she now has two more potential upcoming roles that overshadow the excitement for Wednesday season 2. Besides her likely return in the yet-to-be-announced Scream 7, she is also negotiating to play Lydia Deetz’s daughter in the horror-comedy sequel Beetlejuice 2, which fans have been waiting for more than 35 years.
Beetlejuice 2 seems to be a much more exciting project than Wednesday season 2
The possibility of Jenna Ortega starring alongside Michael Keaton as the title poltergeist in Beetlejuice 2 is one of the most exciting casting news of recent horror sequels. While most legacy sequels of classic horror films like Halloween , The Exorcist , and – at the time – Scream (2022) have put less-known actors in new lead roles, casting Jenna Ortega as the young star is already a foolproof way of making the long-awaited horror-comedy Beetlejuice 2 a hit.
Although Ghostbusters: Afterlife had Mckenna Grace and Finn Wolfhard leading the young cast , their influence wasn’t as big as Ortega’s . Jenna Ortega’s popularity and achievements in the horror genre also show that she is the perfect actress to introduce a new generation to Tim Burton’s best film , Beetlejuice , which remains one of his greatest movies. Ortega playing Lydia Deetz’s daughter would also pair her with Winona Ryder in Beetlejuice 2 , thus uniting the stars of two of the most popular modern horror shows, Wednesday and Stranger Things. Ortega said how great it was to work with Burton, who directed the first four episodes of Wednesday, and expressed her trust and partnership with Burton. Although nothing has been confirmed, the sequel is expected to star Michael Keaton as the title character and Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz. Ortega is reportedly eyeing the role of Lydie Deetz’s daughter, with Burton potentially serving as director of the project.
Beetlejuice 2 and Scream 7 can better create Ortega’s own horror legacy
Although Ortega will have more creative control over Wednesday season 2 as an executive producer, her next potential film projects are where she can better create her own legacy in the horror genre. In Scream 6, she proved that she can revive a classic slasher franchise for a new generation with her role as Tara Carpenter. Her return in Scream 7 could further solidify her place as Sidney Prescott’s successor. In Beetlejuice 2, she could refresh another iconic horror-comedy franchise for a new audience. These films could not only bring her more viewership and revenue than Wednesday season 2, but also give her the opportunity to create her own characters, instead of adapting an existing one.
