MOVIE NEWS – The excitement grows for the upcoming MCU Deadpool 3 film as Ryan Reynolds announces the return of an unexpected X-Force character in the third installment.
Deadpool 3 is one of Marvel Studios’ most anticipated projects, marking the first time a character from the Fox Marvel Universe appears as the lead. In the cast, Ryan Reynolds returns as the title character, joined by Hugh Jackman reprising his role as Wolverine.
Reynolds confirmed via Twitter the Deadline report that Rob Delaney from Deadpool 2 will return as his character Peter in Marvel Studios’ Deadpool 3. Delaney’s character, Peter, served as comic relief in the previous movie as an ordinary human – without superpowers – who joins Deadpool’s X-Force team. Peter dies in a humorous death sequence but is eventually brought back to life when Deadpool uses Cable’s time-traveling device to save him. In the third film, the character will likely provide entertaining moments, though it’s uncertain if he’ll have a larger role compared to other returning characters.
Deadpool 3 brings back several fan-favorite actors from the two Deadpool films produced by Fox, alongside new additions to the franchise. Returning stars include Karan Soni as taxi driver Dopinder, Leslie Uggams as Deadpool’s roommate Blind Al, Morena Baccarin as the anti-hero’s fiancée Vanessa, and Stefan Kapičić as X-Men member Colossus. Jackman also returns as Wolverine, albeit in a different version than the one seen in the 2017 film Logan.
Deadpool 3 also introduces some talented newcomers to the franchise, including Emma Corrin (The Crown) and Matthew Macfadyen (Succession) in undisclosed roles. Deadpool 3 might address a storyline involving Patrick Stewart and Jackman from Logan, as Stewart, who portrayed Charles Xavier, hinted at a possible role in the MCU film during an interview with ComicBook.com, stating, “I’ve been told to standby.” It is also rumored that in Deadpool 3, Reynolds’ character, Wade Wilson, will encounter the Time Variance Authority and Owen Wilson’s character Mobius from the Disney+ series Loki.
The return of characters from the Fox franchise in Deadpool 3 could suggest that Wade Wilson’s meeting with the TVA is likely to happen. Delaney’s return as Peter might be an indication of this, as both he and returning character Vanessa were brought back to life due to Deadpool’s manipulation of timelines, something the TVA severely punishes. These character returns imply that Deadpool 3 will spend some time in the Fox universe before the rumored multi-universal journey lands Reynolds’ character in the MCU, possibly alongside a number of Fox characters from the mutant’s previous films, by the end of Deadpool 3.
