MOVIE NEWS – Daredevil: Born Again officially merges the Avengers with the MCU. But one former cast member isn’t happy with the new series…
Daredevil: Born Again is highly anticipated, but there are a few members of the previous series’ cast who aren’t happy with Marvel’s production. A former cast member of the Netflix series believes that the upcoming series made a significant mistake.
When Netflix’s collection of gritty and mature Marvel series was cancelled, it was a very tragic turn of events for Daredevil fans.
The series was celebrated for its authentic and dark portrayal of lawyer Matt Murdock. It raised many questions about how the MCU would incorporate him into the universe. Charlie Cox remains a fan favourite character. It seemed a shame that he would not return as the vigilante. Fortunately, Cox has made a variety of cameos, suggesting that his character could be a major figure in the MCU.
Sure enough, the MCU series Daredevil: Born Again was announced shortly after, which brought a collective sigh of relief among fans. But not everyone is happy about the upcoming series. A crew member who previously worked on the Netflix version expressed concern about how the series would be handled after its premiere. “They really, truly don’t want it to be anything like the Marvel Netflix Daredevil,” stuntman Chris Brewster reflected on the Izuko Unscripted podcast. “So, nobody that worked on the original series, other than the cast that they’re bringing back, is coming back.”
Brewster was not only an employee of the series but also a self-proclaimed fan. He went on to credit the Netflix series for the authentic portrayal of the characters, as well as the behind-the-scenes creators. The cast member said one of the biggest challenges is that Marvel doesn’t want Daredevil: Born Again to mirror the older series in any way. While some characters will be brought back, it may be the only thing remotely reminiscent of the beloved series.
This shouldn’t even come as a complete shock to ardent fans of the original: Daredevil’s appearance in She-Hulk seemed to signal what was to come.
With Marvel Studios taking over the TV division of Marvel, a more light-hearted and humorous series has been created. But as understandable as that is, it doesn’t mean it doesn’t disappoint. Netflix’s productions have always been excellent at using superheroes to tell emotionally resonant stories. Jessica Jones told essentially honest stories about trauma, while The Punisher had a similarly meaningful conversation about PTSD. It will be sad to see if all this is genuinely missing from Matt Murdock’s latest adventure…
