Daredevil: Why Does The Former Stuntman Fear The Franchise’s Future?!

MOVIE NEWS – Former Daredevil stuntman Chris Brewster is concerned about what Marvel Studios is doing to the character.

Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk, as well as a potential role in Echo, the Charlie Cox character is getting his own series in the MCU next year. Following a successful run on Netflix, Daredevil: Born Again will introduce a new storyline for the Man Without Fear.

However, after what was done with the character in the Tatiana Maslany-led She-Hulk series, some fans are worried about how different the new series will be from the Netflix series, which was one of the most acclaimed productions in the superhero genre.

It seems fans aren’t the only ones who have doubts about what Marvel Studios will do with the character. In an interview with the Ikuzo Unscripted podcast, former series stuntman Chris Brewster gave his thoughts on how the studio is approaching the character and the differences with Netflix:

“I think that, now that the MCU has taken over the character, I think they are really, really hurting it. If you watch She-Hulk, they turned Daredevil into a cartoon. It’s all animated and it looks bad. You know, I love CG to enhance real movement, but if you don’t have any real movement, it just becomes a cartoon. It’s just CG, there’s no weight to it. And what always made the action on Daredevil so good is it was visceral. You felt what Charlie was feeling, between his performance and being in there, in the action. And anything that you saw, we really did. We had to put somebody on a wire, we needed something to enhance the movement. But it wasn’t a cartoon. It was live-action. And you will never match the energy that live-action has. So, I think that She-Hulk was a massive step-down as far as the movement goes and the action.”

Chris Brewster says Marvel Studios made a mistake with Daredevil.

In the interview, Brewster also revealed another reason why he thinks the MCU isn’t doing things right with Daredevil:

“They really, truly don’t want it to be anything like the Marvel Netflix Daredevil. So, nobody that worked on the original series, other than the cast that they’re bringing back, is coming back. And I mean, there were just some truly, truly wonderful that worked on that show and I think they really added to the magic of that show. And I think Marvel’s making a big mistake, but what you gonna do?”

There’s no doubt that the success of the Daredevil and The Defenders universes – despite the fact that some series, like Iron Fist, have received a fair amount of criticism – is down to the team behind them.

However, the other big drawback of the then version of Man Without Fear was the interpretation of Cox and the villain played by Vincent D’Onofrio. Both will be part of the new story, which should already guarantee quality.

It’s also true that the tone Marvel Studios uses for its stories is very different from Netflix’s series. However, other projects such as Captain America: The Winter Soldier or the recently released Secret Invasion prove that they can tell darker and more mature stories.

In addition, new characters are coming to the MCU soon. They will continue to contribute to this vision to expand their audience and target age group, such as Deadpool 3 or Blade. Daredevil: Born Again could align with these stories.
