And Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, has called these companies oppressive (Comcast, IBM, NBC Universal, even Apple and Disney…).
Musk has been accused of both Jew-lobbying and anti-Semitism, and is now in the unfortunate position of having to convince advertisers not to flee his social networking site. Indeed, his statement on the war in Gaza (accusing Jewish communities of dialectical white hatred) upset advertisers, and he has since come out against all forms of racism.
He has since banned certain terms on Twitter, but now Musk is in a position where he is being attacked from both sides of the war, and this has led to Comcast and NBC Universal deciding to suspend advertising on Twitter, effective immediately. Twitter has anti-Semitic content alongside ads, which means that the site’s ad pages are unable to identify when ads are appearing alongside harmful content, and the ability for subscribers to monetize ads on profiles makes matters worse. Media Matters, a US-based left-leaning media analysis group, scrolled the timeline until it found no ads on the anti-Semitic accounts, and IBM decided to pause the ads.
And Musk has had enough and said that on Monday, as soon as the courts open, Twitter’s parent company, X Corp, will file a “thermonuclear” lawsuit against Media Matters and anyone who has fraudulently attacked his company. He then said that with the Premium+ subscription, the most expensive tier, there are no ads on our timeline, and many of the big advertisers, he said, are the most oppressive of all to free speech.
Recently, Musk went after the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), accusing them of making Twitter worth half of what they bought it for last fall. All we can say is that he still doesn’t understand what the problem is. He grew up in South Africa. During apartheid. That’s how much we help.
