According to a leaker, the Resident Evil franchise is a serious possibility for Capcom.

That’s a bit of an exaggeration, but a Resident Evil title has been released every year since the first Resident Evil game debuted in 1996. That’s certainly been the case since 2019 (Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 3 Remake, Resident Evil: Village, Resident Evil Re:Verse, Resident Evil 4 Remake), but nothing has been announced for 2024. According to AestethicGamer/Dusk Golem, this year might not be left out either, as he’s heard of five games currently in the works. One of them will be Resident Evil 9, no doubt about it.

Resident Evil 9 is supposed to finish the story that started with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, so it could be a first-person game, but Dusk Golem says that we shouldn’t expect it until 2025. What might the other four titles be? Maybe a remake of Resident Evil: Code Veronica, or maybe a remake of Resident Evil 5, but those two examples are just speculation. Maybe other remakes of other games in the franchise are in the works? All that’s official at the moment is that Capcom is preparing a re-release of Resident Evil 4 Remake: the Gold Edition, which will be released on February 20th and will include the base game, the Separate Ways DLC, Mercenaries mode, and some DLC items.

In Resident Evil 9, it’s worth thinking about what it would be like to have a co-op mode (like RE5 and 6). For Resident Evil 5 Remake, the co-op gameplay should hit the mark, like the RCPD in 2, Nemesis in 3, and the village atmosphere in 4. It might make sense to have co-op return in both games (and if Resident Evil 6 gets a remake, in this one as well), but it would be risky if Resident Evil 5 Remake and Resident Evil 9 were too similar, but if the former were released earlier, co-op could be tested here.

The only question would be who would be playable alongside Chris Redfield.
