The developers are reportedly not planning a 2025 release, so a new Dragon Age installment could make an appearance in this year’s RPG lineup.

There will be some big RPGs in 2024, as Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Dragon’s Dogma 2, and Avowed will all be released later in the year. In addition, BioWare’s long-rumored (and conceptually redesigned!) Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, which Jeff Grubb talked about on the Game Mess podcast, and he thinks the game will show up sometime this summer.

Grubb doesn’t know when Electronic Arts will show it, but the publisher could decide at any time, and he knows that the game will be released in 2024, because the BioWare developers are pretty sure about it, but that’s no guarantee for a 2024 release. It could slip into early 2025 (a lot of great creations come out in the first three months of a calendar year these days), but internally the expectation could still be 2024. Just don’t rush development like they did with Anthem and Mass Effect: Andromeda!

BioWare’s approach of having only a few months between the announcement and the release of the game seems odd at first, but perhaps the studio’s goal is to not show too much of the game so that the public can jump into the deep end when the RPG is released. This tactic was recently followed by another game released by Electronic Arts. We first saw gameplay for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor in December 2022, and a few months later Respawn Entertainment’s creation hit stores with a sequel planned, but we recently wrote that their Star Wars FPS project was canceled by the publisher due to a 5% cut in the company.

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf has been announced for PlayStation 5, Xbox series and PC and could be released this year, but we’ll definitely have a new episode of the franchise in our hands by 2025 at the latest, after which BioWare will move on to developing Mass Effect 4.
