Soon We Can Shoot the Xenomorphs Again in the Next Alien Game!

Aliens Fireteam Elite was developed by Cold Iron Studio and 20th Century Games, and at the moment it looks like it wasn’t just a one-off foray into Xenomorphs last year…

In Aliens Fireteam Elite, the Colonial Marines receive a mysterious distress call from Colony LV-895, and there they encounter the franchise’s iconic alien creatures. Everyone knows the Xenomorphs, and they’re a staple of the survival horror genre (Alien: Isolation comes to mind), but get ready for another shootout, as an unannounced game has leaked via a document making the rounds on social media. In it, we’ve learned a lot of details about the project, which will presumably be announced at The Game Awards in December…

The game is codenamed Project Macondo and will be released in the third quarter of 2025 (one year from now, between July and September). This will be Aliens Fireteam Elite 2 and will include some new game modes. One of them will be Annihilation, a Xenomorph-like horde mode. The document also outlines the size of the project, so it may be a bit outdated and some of the information in it may be incorrect. Many similar documents are being produced as development progresses. We don’t know when it was made.

According to the document, unlike Aliens Fireteam Elite, Project Macondo will feature pre-defined character archetypes and non-customizable characters. There will be no microtransactions, loot boxes, or gacha (gambling) game mechanics. There will be no in-game voice communication, instead using the console’s (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series) dedicated apps.

It’s rare to see a game of this caliber, with a focus on multiplayer gameplay, released without microtransactions (although there may be some sort of Battle Pass, since we see that more often). This is an honest thing to do, and perhaps Disney’s example will be followed by many others (Warner, for example, will not; they wrote yesterday about how they have a different priority…).
