A New John Wick Spin-off Series is in the Works, and Keanu Reeves is Involved, But You Might Not Like This!

MOVIE NEWS – The John Wick universe is expanding further with a new TV series set after the events of John Wick: Chapter 4. Since the release of the first film in 2014, the franchise has grown into one of Hollywood’s biggest, with each new installment earning more than the last. John Wick: Chapter 4 was released in 2023 and appeared to conclude the series with the main character’s death, but the franchise is far from over.

According to Deadline, Lionsgate is developing a TV series titled John Wick: Under the High Table. The series will be written by Robert Levine, with John Wick franchise director Chad Stahelski serving as executive producer and pilot episode director. The series picks up immediately after the events of John Wick: Chapter 4, showing how John Wick’s death has left the High Table in a precarious position.

At the same time, a host of new characters are vying to make a name for themselves, while some familiar faces remain loyal to the old order, suggesting the return of some fan favorites. The report states that the series will “blend the new and the old, thrusting the Wick universe into a new era.” While Keanu Reeves will not star in the series, he will be an executive producer. The TV show plans reportedly do not interfere with the development of John Wick 5.

The John Wick Universe Keeps Growing

John Wick is one of the rare 21st-century franchises that began as an original idea. Although John Wick’s story seemed to end with Chapter 4, the franchise is expanding. Last year saw the release of The Continental: From the World of John Wick, a three-episode prequel miniseries focusing on a young Winston taking over the legendary Continental Hotel. Meanwhile, 2025 will see the release of Ballerina, now titled John Wick Presents Ballerina.

Ballerina is a spin-off set between John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4, following Rooney (Ana de Armas), a young assassin hinted at in the third film. John Wick: Under the High Table will likely play a crucial role in expanding the John Wick story, potentially laying the groundwork for more spin-offs, including one centered on Donnie Yen’s character, Caine.

While John Wick: Under the High Table will feature references to the films, including the upcoming Ballerina, the status of The Continental remains uncertain. Ian McShane, who played Winston in the John Wick films, criticized the miniseries as a cash grab, and franchise director Chad Stahelski was notably absent from the series. Nevertheless, the show was a hit on Peacock, becoming one of its biggest original series.
