Sony: We're considering boosting the PlayStation 4's performance

It looks like Sony is planning to boost the PlayStation 4‘s power somehow. Executive Vice President Masayasu Ito talked about it to the Japanese publication 4Gamer. They plan to pull this off via software updates, so this means they would upgrade the console with the firmware in the future.

Microsoft already pulled this off with the Xbox One, raising its GPU’s clock speed, as well as giving more tools to the developers to take advantage of the hardware. Sony is planning likewise, although Ito isn’t sure about when and how will they get to do this. After all, the PlayStation 4 came out with more powerful hardware by default, so the Japanese company isn’t in a rush to catch up.

Ito also said that it is very likely that the PlayStation 4 will receive Ultra HD Blu-ray support. They might make an updated console (replacing the Blu-ray hardware components), so the bigger density/capacity discs would be played – 50/66/100 gigabytes of data, 4K resolution -, but we can only wait and see when they get to do this.
