PlayStation TV: it kicked the bucket

What Sony has done in the past few months is just shocking. On the Japanese website of the PlayStation TV, there’s a terminology for it that says „End of Shipments” – that means Sony is going so eventually halt the manufacturing of both the PlayStation TV and the PSTV + DualShock 3 bundle will be stopped at a so far undisclosed date.

The micro-console didn’t have much success. In a little over 2 1/4 years since its launch in Japan, it barely sold 185.000 units, and that’s not a big number. The EU/US launch wasn’t even two years ago, and it looks like the production will end shortly.

The disappearance of the PlayStation TV was expected: it originally launched for 100 US Dollars, and you can buy one now for less than half of it. This console is a great way to play PSP, PS1 or some PS Vita games on your TV with a controller. It also works nicely for streaming movies if you don’t install the latest firmware as that caused more troubles, including the streaming itself.
