UPDATE – No Man’s Sky: A Brutal Loss of Playerbase On PC!

UPDATE: No Man’s Sky‘s PC version (which is buggy, to say the least) started out nicely, but that is now in the past on Steam.

212.604 players on August 12, and 19.336 today. It’s a roughly 91% drop in about two weeks. This significant drop is similar to Evolve, although Turtle Rock has learned the lesson, as the studio’s game changed to a free-to-play model.

Did Sean Murray‘s hype engine backfire?

ORIGINAL: Hello GamesNo Man’s Sky, which launched on Tuesday on PlayStation 4, and on Friday on PC, respectively, had a great start on both platforms in terms of sales.

For Sony, it’s the second biggest PlayStation 4 launch – only Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End could provide higher numbers, which means Sean Murray‘s team is „up there!” The game also ended up being the biggest new IP launch for the Japanese company, too. Taking all other new IPs into consideration, No Man’s Sky ended up taking the fifth spot behind Destiny, Watch Dogs, The Getaway, and The Last Of Us.

On Steam, No Man’s Sky ended up becoming the best launch this year so far, having 212.620 players on launch day. That number is 46% (!) higher than any other game this year. XCOM 2 had 133.022, Dark Souls 3 got 129.975, and DOOM ended up getting 44.271 players on launch day, respectively.

No Man’s Sky, which has… issues on PC, will get our review shortly. Make sure to come back to our site often!

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
