Final Fantasy XIV Leaves The PlayStation 3 Behind With The New Expansion

Another multiplatform title leaves the previous console generation.

Destiny doesn’t support the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 anymore with new updates, and shortly, Square Enix will follow suit: Final Fantasy XIV‘s new expansion, Stormblood, will only launch on the PlayStation 4 and PC next summer.

Square Enix will offer an easy switch for console players to switch to the current generation for free. Sony and Square Enix didn’t detail the free PS3-to-PS4 jump yet, but at least they try to keep their player base. Also, the game’s system requirements will also hike on PC with Stormblood.

The Stormblood, along with the 4.0 update, will raise the level cap from 60 to 70, brings in the new area called Ala Mhigo, and the final boss will be Zenos. Game director Naoki Yoshida says the new expansion will have at least a full standalone game’s worth of content. The combat system, the skills (due to make the switch between jobs easier), and the inventory will also see a revamp in Stormblood.

It will arrive in „early summer of 2017.” Time to upgrade to the PS4 by then.
